After playing four matches in two days at the Pueblo South Invitational, the Durango High School girls tennis team turned around and beat Montrose 7-0 on Monday at DHS.

Not only did DHS shut out the visiting Indians, Durango won every match in straight sets.

Sophia Gallagher returned to Durango’s lineup at No. 1 singles and scored a 6-3, 6-0 win over Andie Blowers.

Ellie Davenport won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles against Rhyan Neary.

At No. 3 singles, Sydney Pritchard scored a 6-2, 6-3 win over Melaina Yender.

Adwyn Chowen and Juliet DiGiacomo beat Alyssa Oman and Samantha Go 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.

At No. 2 doubles, Lola Bradshaw and Ellie McLean won 6-2, 6-1 over Ariana Najar and Gaby Rossales.

Litzy Lopez and Addie Cady scored a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles against Kenadee Hadlock and Hayley Eldridge.

Avery Edgar and Rachel Ager then completed the shutout, winning their bout over Jewel Dixon and Chiara Coronado, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 doubles.

Chowen and DiGiacomo, meanwhile, ended up leading DHS at the Pueblo South Invitational, which ended Saturday.

Chowen and DiGiacomo were one of three DHS doubles teams to win their first two matches to reach the tournament’s semifinals, but were the only team that advanced to the tournament’s championship matchup.

“They had a huge win against valor Christian and made it to the finals,” said DHS head coach Darren Tarshis.

The Durango duo won the first set against Valor 6-3 in the semis, but Valor took the second set 6-1. Chowen and DiGiacomo, however, took the third set 6-4 to advance to the finals against Discovery Canyon. Discovery, however, ended up winning the championship, 6-2, 6-4.

Bradshaw and McLean at No. 2 doubles and Ager and Isabel Bohachevsky at No. 4 doubles also reached the semis, but both teams finished fourth.

“We put ourselves in a good position after Day 1, but weren't able to capitalize in most spots today,” Tarshis said. “Still good experience and getting us tournament ready for regionals in two weeks.”

Davenport went 2-2 in Pueblo and placed sixth at No. 2 singles. Lopez and Cady also went 2-2 at No. 3 doubles and finished 10th. Pritchard won one match at No. 3 singles and placed 10th.
